About Boricuation.com

Boricuation.com is a special undertaking by Jose Medina, a Puerto Rican Self-taught Graphic Designer from New York City. Jose decided to use the popularity of the internet to showcase this project, to expose Puerto Rican culture and history to Boricuas.
Boricuation is the combination of two words . . . Boricua and Education.
Boricuation is located in the heart of Puerto Rican history and culture. It’s the exposure of the struggles and accomplishments made by our Puerto Rican Ancestors. Making sense of the many questions that arise about whom Puerto Ricans are and where we come from.
There are countless reasons why someone would take their own personal time and resources to take on such a vast subject like Puerto Rican history. There are many places where people can access information about Puerto Rico: Books, magazines, newspapers and the internet. Through José’s curiosity about his own identity and ancestry, Boricuation.com was created to enlighten other Puerto Ricans who are miss-informed or just do not know and are curious about their Puerto Rican roots.
Now, I share just a little of our culture and history through graphic design and various articles about Puerto Rico. I take this project personal and hope to expose this information through my perspective and blast it out into cyberspace for everyone to acquire and grasp a piece of Puerto Rican Soul.
I would like to initiate an educational look into a rich culture, mi gente boricua!
Boricuation Cultural Initiative
We are all in a position to return to our roots and expose our youth to their roots.
We are a diverse people, and need to enrich our children's way of thinking. We are responsible for our actions, so let us come correct and expand our children's minds away from that idiot box.
We need to bring culture back!
Bring Old School Boricua mentality back, through our memories of parents y Abuelos showing us our history and the enrichment gained from simple gestures of priceless information. Many do not know how important it is to bring out the real under the skin history of our ancestors. We feel that we belong to a rich and diverse culture and need to put it out there for our children. More are feeling the same way because of the gentrification of their neighborhoods. We are losing bodegas to Sam Whitey’s Pub and Baseball lots to small, expensive, one bedroom, condo/urban experience buildings.
We believe that our communities have the potential of remaining a multi-cultural haven through vibrant cultural events and workshops. We believe in working for a cause and strive to make our projects as collaborative as we possibly can. We are well prepared and have a committed dedication to our projects. We believe that Boricua Art, should be approached as a collaborative-endeavor. We are determined to do whatever it takes to make our projects viable and durable. What it usually takes is the undescribable hardwork of the artisans themselves.
We dedicate hours a day to boricuation.com, spending hours sending e-mails and making phone calls to promote projects, and then they have to go to work to pay the rent and put food on the table. So we understand and know of many others that do the same, and are just as dedicated to their art or movement.
A unification of Puerto Ricans is in order, and we are prepared to do our part. We seek to expose all aspects of Boricua Artisans, with the main purpose of satisfying an existing demand for Puerto Rican culture by our own people. We initiate and promote Puerto Rican cultural projects, which is vital to the contribution of this initiative. We shall and must take it from here, enough damage has been inflicted to our children's thoughts and our communities.
Through the assistance and collaboration of many Boricua Artisans and organizations, we hope to bring cultural events and workshops to our youth in our communities.
